Help & Support
Welcome to DoubleOak. This page answers the most common questions about the app and tells you how to reach us. For the full legal details, see our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
What is DoubleOak?
DoubleOak is a retail tracker for spotting allocated and rare bourbon & whiskey at stores. Members share bottle sightings, reported prices, and store details to help others plan their hunt. Sightings are community reports, not live inventory; check the timestamp and confirm availability with the store before making a trip.
DoubleOak is not a marketplace. There is no buying, selling, trading, or shipping of alcohol through the app — that's our standing anti-market pledge, and it's enforced in our Acceptable Use rules. We are not a retailer, delivery service, or distributor, and we are not affiliated with any brand or store.
Getting started
Creating an account
Open DoubleOak and follow the sign-up steps to create your account. No beta invite is required. The app is available in the United States for adults 21 and older.
Your home base
Set your home base to find sightings nearby. New accounts start with a 25-mile feed radius, adjustable up to 100 miles. You can change your home base every 7 days; initial setup and the 24-hour correction window are exempt. If a change is unavailable, use the next allowed time shown in the app.
Using DoubleOak
- Sightings — share bottles you find and browse reports from nearby hunters. Share publicly right away or give selected squads a 24-hour head start. Squad-first sightings become public after that window, including those shared with private squads.
- Bounties — keep up to 3 active hunts for specific bottles and receive notifications when matching sightings are shared. Close a hunt to make room for another; your feed and squad access remain available.
- Squads — join public squads or private groups, share discoveries, and chat. You can create up to 2 squads; joining squads does not count toward that limit.
- Follows — keep up to 10 stores and distilleries combined in your followed list. Following does not automatically set event reminders.
- Event reminders — set reminders for up to 5 distinct events with pending reminders. Multiple reminder times for one event count as one event.
- Daily sightings summary — enable an optional daily summary of nearby public sightings when there is activity. It opens your current sightings feed. No summary is sent on empty days, and there is no fixed delivery time.
Reporting & blocking
You can report any objectionable content (a sighting, comment, or Squad message) and block any user directly in the app — open the menu on the post or profile and choose Report or Block. Blocking hides that user's content from you and prevents them from contacting you.
Our moderation commitment: we review reports of objectionable content within 24 hours and remove content or users that violate our guidelines. You can also block any user immediately, so your safety never has to wait on our review. There is no tolerance for harassment, threats, or marketplace activity. See the User-Generated Content section of our Terms for details.
Account & privacy
Deleting your account
You can permanently delete your account and associated data in two ways:
- In the app: go to Me → About → Delete Account and confirm.
- On the web: visit doubleoak.app/delete-account, or email support@doubleoak.app from the address on your account.
Deletion removes your profile, photos, comments, and Squad memberships. Some records may be retained where required by law. For exactly what is deleted and what is retained, see our Privacy Policy.
App permissions
DoubleOak only asks for the device permissions it needs, and only when a feature needs them:
- Camera — to take a photo of a bottle when you post a sighting.
- Photos — to attach an existing photo to a sighting. We strip EXIF and GPS metadata from photos before they're uploaded.
- Location — to show sightings near you and tag the store on a sighting. We use foreground location only — DoubleOak never tracks your location in the background.
- Notifications — for bounty matches, squad sightings, event reminders, and the optional daily sightings summary. Choose what you receive in the app’s notification settings; device settings control notification permission.
Troubleshooting
I can’t sign in
Check that you’re using the email address associated with your account and follow the sign-in prompts. If you still need help, contact support@doubleoak.app. Never send your password or sign-in codes.
Location isn't working
Check your home base and feed radius in the app. If you’re using your current location, allow DoubleOak to access location while you use the app in your device settings. Refresh the feed after making changes.
I'm not getting push notifications
Check both your in-app notification preferences and device permissions. Quiet hours, focus modes, connectivity, and processing can affect delivery. A bounty notification needs a matching sighting; the daily summary needs nearby public activity. If you previously denied permission, re-enable it in your device settings.
